2 Vessel Cord little man

5 years ago I went in for my 20 week ultrasound on our first child. After 3 years of trying to get pregnant and finally getting blessed with a miracle I found out our baby had something called a 2 vessel umbilical cord. That day my doctor was out of the office and I only got to see the US tech. She informed me that chances are my doctor would want to schedule an appointment with a Maternal Fetal Specialist due to the fact that their could be some abnormalities due to this "diagnosis". She said everything looked w/in the normal range but that they were having trouble finding one of the kidneys.
I WAS DEVASTATED! I felt like after all this waiting I was finally pregnant and now had something wrong. How could this be! Of course I got home and started googling "2 vessel cord" Boy was that a wrong Idea. Short of saying my baby would maybe come with 2 heads and 6 arms I was scared out of my whits! Fast forward a few months later and I gave birth to an overall healthy little boy. He did have a few things wrong but none of the things that I expected. He was born with a congenital heart defect and was missing the kidney. The congenital heart defect was a small(tiny)VSD (ventricular septal defect) which may/may not close one day but doesn't pose a health risk and if you saw my son you would never guess he came with a little hiccup.
The reason I wrote this 5 years later is because I remember feeling such frustration and stress during the rest of my pregnancy due to the lack of information or dramatic information that was available. Since this happens in 1 out of 100 births it is something that is somewhat common. Please know that if you have been diagnosed with a 2 vessel cord pregnancy please take time to breath, don't stress out and most important don't go crazy reading everything available online. Even if any problems do arise from the baby having a 2VC it will be your baby and you will love it so much!
The one thing I read was that due to the fact that you are working with less nutrients flowing to the baby I tried getting the best Prenatal vitamins I could with the least fillers I took Vital Nutrients Prenatal multi nutrients which came highly recommended by a cousin of ours that's a doctor. Either way I was born with an 8#11oz baby 2 weeks before my due date(which if you read info you know that these babies are usually underweight due to the lack of nutrients)so I highly recommend these vitamins :)
Have faith, relax and realize all will work out no matter how stressful the situation is and most important don't go crazy reading the what if's had I stressed out and imagined the worst possible scenario it still wouldn't have prepared me for anything and just been unhealthy for me and the baby.
Blessings! Here he is showing off his abilities :)

Catholics why must we dress so inappropriately for Mass?

Every Sunday we attend church and Every Sunday the same issue makes my eyes twitch;People dress inappropriately at church. Whenever I go out to dinner with my husband we'll be out and about and you see people dressed so nicely! You see them at restaurants, work, the movies,etc..and they are dressed to impress. But you walk into a Catholic church on a Sunday and the first thing you see are grubby teenagers in their cargo shorts, flip flops and a shirt that has probably never been ironed. Girls are no better, they use skirts and outfits that leave NOTHING to the imagination. I mean really people we're at church!
I have to hand it to the various other churches around town (ie:Baptist,Methodist,Lutheran, etc)as soon as their services are out and you see people walk it they look nice! Men wear Suit and ties and women have their best dresses on,children, teenagers, the old ,the young all dressed to see the King of Kings!
Have we such little respect for our Mass that we need to dress like slobs? This has been egging at me for quite a while now and today I have to say was the breaking point when my son asked me why that man was not wearing "God's Castle Clothes"and dressed like he was at the beach. He also informed me that the man was "naughty" because you always have to wear nice clothes to see "Papa Dios"(God). People this is my 4 year old noticing this. Is there not something wrong when a child can see the problem in this?

I hate to say this but this is an absolute reflection of the degradation of our society. The fact that we put ourselves at the same level as God because we feel that yes we go to church and yes we believe yet he doesn't deserve our very best,he doesn't deserve our complete and total "US". I'm proud of my kids, especially my son who makes an effort to look nice for church. He doesn't understand the Days of the week fully but knows that when we wake up and I tell him we are going to "God's Castle today" he automatically reaches for his clip on tie and "God's Castle shoes" His behavior might not be the best at church but for a child and to the fullest extent of his capacities he knows how important it is to show the King of Kings, Our God,respect..it's a shame adults cant do the same.

Super Mom?

Living far away from family makes things very hard sometimes...ok a lot of the time.

When I was pregnant with the Bumbum I had a severe gallstone attack almost sending me in for emergency Gallbladder removal surgery(200 miles away since I was pregnant and it would be a highrisk surgery possibly causing delivery of the baby at 25 weeks). At the time I had 2 little ones under 3 and my husband had just opened up a new business and of course we lived about 2000 miles away from family making this literally the hardest times we faced as a married couple. This is of course an extrememe situation but looking at my daily life my situations are usually up there with extreme.

I also see some of my supermom neighbors that have military spouses that are deployed and realize they have en equal to or harder plight than that of a restaurant owner wife :) I know many times as stay at home moms we are judged; sometimes because we decided to take that undertaking on and giving up our "hopes, dreams and careers" to take care of kids. In my case people usually nod their head half understanding/half sympathetically when I tell them I stay at home with my 3 under 5. I always smile and say it's not that bad but I know people look at my like I'm CRAZY and you know what half of the time I think I am! I know my biggest flaw in all of this is that I don't ask for help, whether to prove a point as to how powerful my super abilities are or due to the fact that I am embarrassed to. I know one of my supermom neighbors gets mad when I get caught in a predicament and don't ask her for help and usually end up in something reminiscent of an I Love Lucy episode, but alas it is who I am :)
I read a neat write up by a fellow supermom Jennifer Fulwiler about how Stay-at home mom's need help and it made me realize or at least vocalize the fact that yeah..we do and It's ok to ask :) Being so far from family and having a husband who works 35 hours a day makes my job even more difficult. I have been blessed because my kids are attending an amazing preschool in a few weeks freeing up a couple of hours a day but come next year we are being faced with the probablity of homeschooling our son for pre school. It's something we had never thought about (at least not me)in my wildest dreams but with the disgusting public schools in this area(If I had a dog I wouldn't send it into some of these buildings) and in order to send our son to the local parochial school we would probably have to sell bum bum. So this is something we might consider..either way thanks Jennifer for opening my eyes up to the fact that it's ok to ask for help and not feel guilt about it :) And for you Supermoms out there keep doing what your doing and if your gut tells you it's ok then don't second guess yourselves :)

Is this a problem? You decide…..

I had this forwarded to me by a friend and found this to be a great way of understanding why illegal immigration is a problem in simple math form.

JOE vs. JOSE

You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal".

Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California .

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Ready? Now pay attention...

Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has
$31,231.00.

Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.0 0 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has
$31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600..00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00.

Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631 .00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc.

Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

Do you get it, now?

How I write my blog...

There are times when two hands just aren't enough:)

Turn a T Shirt into a ruffle skirt!

I had to link up to this great tutorial on making a Girl's ruffled t-shirt skirt. What a creative idea!!! It's from the blog Clay in His hands. I took a sewing class a while back but due to a broken sewing machine and not following through I simply can't sew. I really need learn because it's so important to know how to do with 2 little girls :)

Maggie goes on a diet??

This morning while running on the treadmill *still* trying to shed the endless pounds that have stuck around since the birth of my third child I happen to watch a snippet on the news about the new book "Maggie Goes on a Diet" and wanted to throw up. Not because of the amount of time I had been running but because of the title of the book/picture. At first I thought it was a joke and then came to realize it wasn't and then I began to read and research and most important soul search.

As a little girl I was always underweight. I was a skinny little thing. I remember my grandmother and parents always talking about the fact I wouldn't eat, wasn't gaining weight, was something wrong with me,etc... Well in 3rd grade I began a new school and with that my self esteem went down the toilet and unfortunately so did my eating habits. Looking back at pictures I became a lot heavier than I had originally been but in no means obese. I have since struggled with my weight. I have managed to loose weight many times including my all time weight loss 10 years ago.
However, seeing as how I've struggled with weight(food being my biggest enemy) it's never been about making bad choices so much as control issues, emotional issues,etc... I mean isn't that why most people gain weight? Normal people who have a delicious meal don't continue gorging on food because they know it's an unhealthy choice. People overeat due to underlying issues. If you go on vacation and eat your weight in food, chances are you will come back and try to make healthier alternatives to jump you back into that "healthy" lifestyle one should follow. People who allow themselves(including myself) to get to the point where we have to sit back and say whoa, i need some control,it's something a lot deeper and further than making "healthy choices".
The more I read about Maggie going on a diet, I think the author truly had good intentions due to the fact that the obesity rate in children has dramatically risen in the past few years. I know that our diets high in sugar, fat, fast food,etc...is to blame...however,why are these children being allowed by their parents/caretakers to eat this way? I believe there are many factors that contribute to weight gain and obesity within our youth and yes there is the small percentage that could use this information and benefit by the message the author was trying to convey, however I think the author completely missed the mark. Using the title Maggie goes on a Diet sends the wrong message to children that are battling with deeper issues than just correct food choices.
That being said, society is cruel. I went through endless torcher growing up with my heavier than normal weight. Where there times I felt ugly, YES! My husband has referred to that time as my "Hamster girl phase" I literally looked like a hamster. I was blessed enough to have enough love from my parents and grandparents to help me through this and be able to take control of myself. Because of this time I am who I am today and hold no grudges and am actually friends with some of those girls that taunted me as a child. But that is just my story. I know many kids aren't so lucky and as a parent you want to protect your children from any harm emotional/physical that may come their way. As for my kids I am working very hard to establish better eating habits for my children by preferring fruit over sweets as for me Now my weigh loss is a little different. I have 3 babies I want to see grow up and
continuing the unhealthy lifestyle I have followed isn't going to get me there. Do I fall off the food wagon ABSOLUTELY but I try to climb back on and continue.
As for our children giving them a positive body outlook no matter what size they are is the only way we are going to help them with their body image issues. If we individually as humans try to adopt that lifestyle helping our children realize how beautiful they are no matter what they look like, but try however to encourage a healthy attitude when it comes to trying to limit fast food, high sugar diets,etc.. we can help them achieve the perfect "them"which will vary form person to person because we are all individuals and we are all beautiful. We aren't going to change the world as a whole we can only change ourselves and through our change impact the world.

What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander?

I've noticed in the past few months that our President has been asking various Middle Eastern leaders to step down;Starting with Mubarak to Gadaffi and now Syrian President Bashar Assad. It seems it's open season out in the Middle East. I've noticed something very interesting though as bad as the neglet for human rights have been on behalf of these leaders it hasn't been any worse than the neglet for human rights that one has seen from China,Korea or Cuba to name a few. YET I have not seen the US call out any of these countries. I especially notice the pussy footing the US does around China. I wonder why???hmmmm is it because China owns us practically? It's funny how as a country we pride ourselves in going around and telling all these leaders what to do and what not to do,yet are selective with the leaders we decide to play "teacher" with. This is just an observation I've noticed and had to talk about since it seems with each new day comes a new warning to another country....Just saying....

Lemonade Freedom Day

Today I got up extra early to go to the gym before the tadpoles & hub woke up. As I was huffing and puffing along my cardio workout and watching FOX news I happen to see an interview with the Freedom Lemonistas. Here is their link:http://www.lemonadefreedom.com/ This is a group of people trying to prove a point at how stupid these lemonade stand closings are. They went to the Capitol and sold lemonade of course they got arrested for not having permits but God bless them for what they did! I went on their events page on facebook and some of the comments show how brainwashed people are in this country. You get a lot of blah blah on laws and regulations and how they could have had items to blow up the capitol with the lemonade, blah blah. But all those comments just show how dopey people are and how they aren't looking at the bigger picture. IE: We are starting to live in a NAZI state. How something so small as a lemonade stand can be closed down. If you get a chance check out their site. It has a lot of really neat info. Good for Rober Fernandez and his wife and what they are doing! You have my support!

Train Festival

We got to go to a local Annual Train festival this weekend. The kids had a blast and I really have to hand it to the organizers for the great job. I have to say I was a little disappointed in the turn out though. We hadn't been for a couple of years but there were a lot more people last time we went. I don't want to complain because it made things really nice however, I feel bad for the organizers. I know the money goes towards the upkeep of the Historic Train Station and this even is held as a fund raiser.

So thus my disappointment.
As for the even they had a wrist band you could purchase so that the kids could take advantage of the rides(bounce house,ponies,etc..) and they also had some carnival like games(hoop toss, beanbag through the mouth of something,etc...) they had a bucket of prizes for all the kids(YAY! Everyone was a winner,-_-). Inside the actual train station was neat because they had a ton of local train enthusiast with their AMAZING and Detailed train tracks and collections. Even Bum Bum was impressed with the train tracks and it made for a fun time overall. It really is a neat time, fun for all including parents :)

Why are my beliefs and rights not protected?

While these kids were praying at the World Youth Rally in Spain a group of pro choice and pro gay rights activist were yelling in their faces, making fun of them and degrading them.
Why do they ask us to be quiet when they insist on insulting and yelling at us?
Why do they defend their rights when they attack our rights?
Why do they call us intolerant when we silently proclaim our faith?
Why do they call us names when they are the violent ones?

It seems that all these groups want rights and freedoms yet they turn into animals when we don't agree with their "beliefs"
I am so tired of all these pro-choice,gay right groups that are continuously pushing their agenda down our throats saying it's their freedom, their rights; but where are our rights and our freedom to not accept this lifestyle?
We are considered bigots, racists, inhumane when we don't agree with something that goes completely against MY FAITH & MY BELIEFS!
You know you are at the end of times when What was once right is now wrong and what was wrong is now right. I want MY Rights protected as well and I want my Beliefs protected as well.

Banning lemonade Stands? I'd like to see them try!

Summer is synonymous with lemonade stands,or at least it use to be.....
I've been seeing more and more on the news how police or officials came upon an unsuspecting child with a lemonade stand and shut it down. The first time I read it I couldn't believe it! It made me realize how far removed from reality we've become as a society. How something so innocent as a lemonade stand is now being persecuted due to some health code or taxation law. It made me sad because it also made me realize that many of the things we did growing up might become taboo or actually have become taboo for our children. I understand that many of the things we did are considerably dangerous and we are living in a society that seems to have more malice than the society many of us grew up with, nevertheless it made me think of how many things our children won't be able to do.
That being said a few weeks ago we had a garage sale and my little tadpoles decided they were going to have a lemonade stand. What was funny was the first thing that came out of my husband's mouth was,"let's just hope they don't close it down" (since we have a few county sheriffs that enjoy driving around our neighborhood looking for infractions of some sort in order to recoup some funds for their department) Thankfully the sale went without a hitch, however, the rebel in me was hoping that someone dared to come in and "tried" to close shop on the lemonade stand. Not because of me,not because of my husband but because of our 3 year old Princess Gigi.
Now Gigi is the queen of pitching a fit so loud you can probably hear it in Singapore and that little girl had her heart set on the lemonade stand. She was well aware of the monetary profits one would acquire during said lemonade stand. She did an excellent job at batting her BIG BROWN eyes at everyone who set foot in our garage scoping out trinkets and treasures. I would have loved to see the match Gigi vs The SYSTEM because chances are one of them would have broken and it wouldn't have been Gigi. Maybe if they came across a Gigi they would think twice about shutting down lemonade stands or any said stand. I'd like to see them try....buahahahaha

Hummingbird Show

This summer we've been enjoying a group of hummingbirds that have been frequenting our feeder. There is one little guy who from what I've read is the "dominant male" because he seems to be the one that is always guarding and hovering around the feeder. He chases an hummingbird away that dares come in proximity to his feeder(which I fill with 1 part water 1 part sugar(boiled mixture, cool and serve). Once in a while though they don't listen and we get a neat shot like this:
These little animals are so fascinating you might even mistaken them for flies or butterflies at times because of their size and speed. There's been times where I've changed their feeder and have had them hovering within inches of my face. They will definitely be missed when they decide to migrate south for the winter.
